Strategy Statement 2022-2026

Galway and Roscommon ETB has launched its Strategy Statement for 2022-2026. It sets out the ETB’s mission over the next five years to ‘provide, develop and support education, training and youth services which empower people to reach their potential and to contribute to society.’

The Strategy is guided by the ETB’s vision ‘to lead in the provision of high quality, innovative, inclusive and responsive education and training programmes for the people in Galway and Roscommon.’ Key priorities will be the enhancement of education and training provision and the development of innovative and responsive programmes to meet new employment needs. A number of strategic goals and objectives have been outlined under four key pillars – People, Programmes, Processes and Potential.

Galway and Roscommon ETB is one of the largest education providers in the region, catering for over 21,000 students and learners in 2021. GRETB is patron of 19 Community Colleges, 2 Community National Schools (CNS) and is co-trustee of 8 Community and Comprehensive schools. Further Education and Training (FET) programmes and services are provided in 39 FET centres across Galway and Roscommon. It manages Petersburg Outdoor Education and Training Centre, 3 Music Generation services in County Galway, Galway City and County Roscommon and supports the provision, coordination, administration and assessment of youth work services across the region.

Speaking at the launch of the new Strategy, Cllr Michael Maher said, “as Chairperson of Galway and Roscommon ETB, I am delighted to present our ETB’s new Strategy Statement. The next 5 years will be an exciting time for the development of education and training in Galway and Roscommon. The implementation of the Strategy Statement will inform the ETB’s work which will be monitored by the Board of Galway and Roscommon ETB. We are living in a time of great change and opportunity. I look forward to GRETB playing a pivotal role in supporting and developing education, training, innovation and creativity in our region.”

GRETB’s vision is ‘empowering people for life’ which Chief Executive David Leahy said, together with their mission, values, goals and objectives will inform service plans and action plans in GRETB schools, offices and further education and training centres over the next five years: “As a major education provider in Galway and Roscommon, our ambition over the next 5 years is to enhance and promote our education and training provision, offering innovative and responsive programmes for our students and learners and quality work environments for our staff. We look forward to achieving the goals set out in our ambitious strategy, working in partnership with our stakeholders and with the communities we serve in Galway and Roscommon.”

GRETB employs over 2,000 staff and administers an annual budget of over €121 million.  Geographically, GRETB is the second largest ETB nationally and includes four offshore islands. County Galway has the single largest, and most populous Gaeltacht area in the country and promoting the Irish language is an essential element of GRETB’s core service.
