GRETB School of Music provides personalised, one-to-one tuition in a diverse range of instruments, catering to students of all ages and skill levels.
Tuition is currently available in Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Fiddle, Violin, Clarinet,
Saxophone, Cello, Oboe, Bassoon, Flute, Music Theory and Voice.
Lessons take place in Galway Community College on Tuesday and Wednesday
evenings from 4pm – 7pm and on Saturdays from 9am – 5pm, over a two-term year:
- Autumn, 10 weeks: September 23 – December 07 (2024)
- Spring, 16 weeks: January 27 – May 31 (2025)

Annemarie Duggan
Piano / Clarinet / Keyboard / Saxophone / Music Theory
Annemarie Duggan, BA (Mus), H.Dip in Ed (Hons), ALCM, LLCM(td), is an
accomplished music educator who studied at Derby City and DIT. As a founding member of the Galway Concert Orchestra and a candidate to represent Ireland in the European Youth Orchestra, she has a rich background in performance and musical excellence. Her students have gone on to perform with international big bands and orchestras, consistently achieving distinctions in ABRSM exams and impressive scores of up to 140 in piano exams. Annemarie specialises in preparing students for Junior and Leaving Certificate music exams, university entrance exams, as well as ABRSM and RIAM exams in Clarinet, Saxophone, and Piano.
Joanne Cater
Flute / Clarinet / Saxophone / Oboe / Bassoon / Music Theory
Joanne Cater, an honours graduate of the Colchester Institute of Music, trained under the esteemed Duke Dobing and gained extensive experience as a peripatetic woodwind teacher in Warwickshire from 1996 to 2000. Currently, she is the conductor of both the University of Galway Orchestra and Galway Youth Orchestras, where she is highly regarded for her commitment to nurturing young musicians. With over 15 years as an honorary local representative for ABRSM, Joanne possesses deep expertise in exam preparation, offering tuition across all grade levels from preliminary to diploma for ABRSM, Trinity, and RIAM exams. A versatile multi-
instrumentalist, Joanne enjoys performing a variety of woodwind instruments in regional musical productions and plays baritone saxophone with the Black Magic Big Band. At the GRETB School of Music, she teaches flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, and music theory.
Peter Tobin
Piano / Guitar
Peter Tobin studied piano under Patricia Lillis, FLCM, earning his ALCM (Piano) diploma in 1996. He also pursued guitar studies through the Registry of Guitar Tutors and is a registered guitar tutor with the London College of Music. With over 25 years of teaching experience in Galway, Peter offers expert preparation for LCM Piano Exams, RIAM Piano Exams, RGT Electric Guitar Exams, and Junior/Leaving Certificate Music Practical Performance tests. Additionally, he provides personalised tuition tailored to each student’s individual musical preferences.
Jantien Vanderberg
Piano / Violin / Cello / Flute / Saxophone / Clarinet
Jantien Vanderberg is a seasoned music educator who studied at the prestigious Amsterdam Conservatory of Music. With a career spanning over three decades, she has been a dedicated tutor at the School of Music since 1990. Jantien brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her teaching, offering instruction in violin, cello, piano, flute, clarinet, and saxophone. Her teaching philosophy is deeply student-centred, focusing on nurturing each individual’s unique musical journey. She emphasises a rich and varied repertoire, incorporating tailored arrangements that resonate with her students’ interests and abilities.
Anna Falkenau
Fiddle / Violin
Anna Falkenau is an accomplished music teacher and performer, holding an A-Level in Music, a BMus Degree, and a Masters Degree in Music. With over twenty years of teaching experience, her expertise spans private tuition, group classes, classroom instruction, festival workshops, and lecture demonstrations. Specialising in Irish traditional fiddle, she offers preparation for Comhaltas’s graded Irish traditional music exams, SCT’s, and Junior/Leaving Certificate music exams.
Lisa Convery
Piano / Keyboard / Voice
Lisa Convery is a dedicated and versatile music educator with over two decades of experience, working with students of all ages and abilities. Specialising in piano, keyboard, and voice, she also explores a range of more unusual instruments, tailoring her lessons to the unique needs and goals of each student. Lisa’s approach is deeply rooted in her classical training, complemented by her certification as a community music facilitator with Musicians Without Borders. Her passion for music extends beyond teaching; she actively participates in choirs, conducts, and volunteers with Music for Galway. When not immersed in music, Lisa enjoys rescuing dogs and learning new languages.
