Our Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) offers part-time further education courses for people aged 18 and over. We provide individuals with the opportunity to combine learning with family, work and other responsibilities.

Anyone who is not in full-time education can take part in our Back to Education Initiative courses but priority will be given to those with less than upper second-level education.

We offer a range of education and training courses at National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Levels 4, 5 and 6 and course durations range from six months to two years depending on the course. Courses can be offered during the day, evening or weekends and are offered through our Further Education and Training Centres.

Back to Education Initiative courses are FREE of charge for those with less than a Leaving Certificate or equivalent education.

You are eligible for free tuition if you:

  • have less than leaving certificate level of education
  • are in receipt of a Department of Social Protection payment – including dependants
  • have a full medical card
  • are in the workforce with low skill levels and want to upgrade their skills to advance their career

Fees will apply to other applicants.

Some of the courses we offer through our Back to Education Initiative include Leaving Certificate, Childcare, Healthcare and Business Administration.
